Kitāb Pākihī.

Three works combined in one volume. The first two are versions of a work on Islamic law derived from ʻAlī ibn ʻAbd Allāh al-Lakhmī's (d.1085) Tabṣirah and called Īḍāḥ fī al-fiqh. The third work is on rhetoric. The book was presented to Major Hugh Lenox Scott, the American governor of the Philippine island of Jolo, in 1906 by Hājjī Būtū ʻAbd al-Bāqī. According to an accompaning letter, the work was brought to Jolo by Salipul Hassim, the island's first sultan.

Hugh Lenox Scott (b. Sept. 22, 1853, Danville, Ky.-d. Apr. 30, 1934, Washington, D.C.), Major General in the U.S. Army, graduated from West Point in 1876 and for the next 20 years served on the frontier, chiefly with the 7th Cavalry. He fought in campaigns against Indians of the Plains and became an expert in their languages. He was commander of Troop L of the 7th Cavalry, the last Indian troop in the Army.
